You are here: About me
I've lived most of my life in America, born in Oklahoma and then moved to Texas when I was still very young. I come from a family of 6 with one older sister, a twin brother and a younger brother. And plenty of cats, dogs, and other animals which became part of the family.
Initially, I wanted to study psychology at University but later found I was drawn to computing and could see what impact it was making on the world. I then turned my efforts on learning more about computers, namely web technologies. At the age of 16, I decided to complete my studies a year early (by doing 2 years course work in 1) and move to England shortly after my High School graduation to go to university. One month before my 18th birthday, I moved to London. I spent the first year acquainting myself with the culture; London was worlds different from small town Texas. When I wasn't studying, I spent a lot of time getting acquainted with London in all forms: clubs, pubs, museums, parks, coffee shops, music festivals, learning about other cultures, language differences, trying diverse foods, educating myself if British history, politics, transport... And I'm always learning in such a vibrant, wonderful, changeable city.
In late 2005, I was delighted to obtain British citizenship.
For over 5 years I have worked as a web developer / designer and even when I'm not at my day job, I spend a lot of time on computers. I don't mind admitting that I'm a female geek and enjoy research and playing with technologies.
Photography is one of my main passions and creative outlet to show the world my perspective and capture those little glimpses of life which go largely unnoticed. I've had some of my work exhibited and have done a few freelance projects. I work both with film and digital and spend a large portion of my free time studying, practicing and inspiring myself in the presence of other wonderful photographers. Within the next year I hope to display a themed exhibition of my work so watch this space.
When time and money allows, I travel to new places and learn about other cultures. Travelling is where I draw my inspiration, love for life and its differences. I have travelled quite a bit in Europe, some of Asia, Australia and the US.
I've also been a vegetarian for the past 8 years and actively try to promote vegetarianism and animal welfare. My other interests include music, going to gigs, reading, foreign & b films, visual arts, theatre, going to exhibitions, distance running, skiing, cooking and psychology.
