I have been working as a Client Side Developer at the BBC since June 2008 working on pan-BBC reusable, embeddable web applications and widgets. These apps & widgets have been incorporated in many BBC websites, a selection included below:

The National Archives

Background: I have worked for The National Archives' for the past 5 years first as a Webmaster then promoted to Web Developer / Designer. I have created a mobile service, RSS feeds, podcast service as well as designed many of their microsites.

User Centred Design is a major factor in my work with all projects adhering to strict accessiblity and usability guidelines.


Prisoner 4099

Prisoner 4099 websiteMain skills employed: Usability, Accessibility, accessible Javascript, XHTML, CSS
Background: A double award winning industry leading website with the highest standards of accessibility and usability while not compromising design. Jointly developed with another designer collaborating on the design, architecture, creative accessibilty solutions which included working with blind students and partially sighted staff.


Domesday Book

Domesday Book websiteMain skills employed: CSS, XHTML, IA, accessibility
Background: Domesday Book is The National Archives' most treasured record. I designed and developed the entire website to offer fully fluid CSS while ensuring minimum AA standards. which recieved over 1,000,000 visitors in the first 2 weeks of launch. There was widespread media coverage in newspapers, TV and online.


Human Rights

Background: Plots Human Rights from 1215 to the present day. Co-produced site collaborating on Information Architecture, coding templates in XHTML and CSS. Undertook a content and code review before launch to ensure at least AA compliance.


Archives for All

Background: I developed all aspects of the website while maintaining excellent rapport with the client. This included: helping the client create a brief, structuring the information, builing templates, wireframing, user testing, developing Photoshop mockups designs and XHTML / CSS coding.


Moving Here

The Moving Here websiteMain skills employed: HTML, XHTML, MySQL, XML, XSL, CSS, Perl, ASP, Javascript, RedDot CMS, Photoshop, Quark
Background: Charting migration to England for the past 200 years funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. I was the Website Manager for 3 years looking after all technical aspects of the website, dealing with clients, writing briefs & requirements catalogues, fixing issues within databases, ASP code, XML and HTML.

Moving Here was built using many techologies, contractors and bespoke systems so I was responsible for ensuring all systems smoothly interfaced with one other.
